Women across Melbourne are choosing Lady and the Hair for premium hair extensions customised to their hair, lifestyle and goals
There isn’t one “best” method there’s only the best method for your hair. During your consultation we assess your hair density, goals, lifestyle, maintenance preferences and desired result to recommend the safest and most suitable option. We offer multiple methods because different hair types need different solutions.
Hair extensions should never be a one-size-fits-all service.
When professionally installed, maintained and removed correctly, hair extensions should not damage healthy hair. Because we specialise in hair extensions and offer multiple methods, we’re able to customise your installation based on your natural hair, lifestyle and goals.
Our priority is always protecting the integrity of your natural hair, which means we only recommend methods that are suitable and safe for your hair type. In some cases, this may even mean combining different methods within the same application to create the most seamless result while minimising stress on your natural hair.
We’ll also guide you through maintenance and aftercare to help keep both your extensions and natural hair healthy.
Because every client’s hair goals are different, pricing is customised based on the amount of hair required, desired result, hair length, colour matching and chosen installation method.
Extensions for added thickness start from $450, with pricing increasing based on the amount of hair needed.
For most clients, the initial appointment is the largest investment as this is when you are purchasing your hair. Ongoing maintenance appointments are typically lower as they focus on maintaining and refitting your extensions.
To make your hair goals more manageable, we offer a range of payment options including Afterpay, Zip Pay, Zip Money and VIP Membership options for ongoing maintenance.
Your stylist will provide a personalised quote during your consultation and explain all recommendations before proceeding. Quotes are valid for 14 days.
Every hair extension appointment begins with a thorough consultation. However, it isn’t always necessary to visit the salon for a separate consultation appointment beforehand.
Because we carry our own range of premium hair extensions and keep our most popular lengths, colours and methods in stock, we can often complete your consultation and installation on the same day.
Many clients choose to start with what we call a virtual consultation, where they send us photos of their current hair along with inspiration photos of their desired result. Based on these images, we can recommend suitable methods, discuss your options and provide a rough starting price.
For clients who would prefer an in-person consultation, we also offer complimentary hair extension consultations in salon. Before any hair is installed, your stylist will complete a detailed consultation, assess your hair, confirm the recommended method and provide a final quote before proceeding.
We pride ourselves on our colour matching expertise.
Because we stock our own range of premium hair extensions in a wide range of colours, we’re able to custom blend multiple shades to create the most seamless result possible. Just like natural hair contains different tones and dimensions, extension colours often need to be mixed and customised rather than matched with a single colour.
As extension specialists, we have extensive experience colour matching and believe it is one of the most important factors in creating natural-looking hair extensions. A great colour match helps your extensions blend seamlessly with your natural hair, making them virtually undetectable.
While hair extensions can be coloured, we generally recommend achieving your desired hair colour first and then matching the extensions to your hair. This helps maintain the quality and longevity of the extensions, as repeated colouring and chemical processing can shorten the lifespan of the hair over time.
Our goal is always to achieve the most seamless result while helping you get the maximum longevity from your investment.
There are two parts to this question: the lifespan of the hair itself and how often you’ll need maintenance appointments.
With proper care, our premium hair extensions can last up to 12 months or longer, depending on the method chosen, your home care routine and the colour selected. Generally, darker shades tend to last longer than lighter shades, as lighter colours require additional processing to achieve their final colour.
We are extremely particular about the quality of hair we use. Our extension range was developed after extensive research and sourcing to ensure we could provide hair that delivers exceptional longevity, softness and performance while still offering value to our clients.
To keep your extensions looking their best and protect your natural hair, regular maintenance appointments are required. Most methods require maintenance every 6–8 weeks, while some methods, such as K-Tips, may last 10–12 weeks before needing maintenance.
During your consultation, your stylist will recommend a maintenance schedule based on your chosen method, hair growth and lifestyle.
Absolutely. In fact, many of our clients wear their hair up regularly.
With the correct placement, method selection and hairline customisation, hair extensions can be installed to suit a variety of hairstyles, including ponytails, buns and everyday wear.
While we often recommend lower ponytails for maximum comfort and longevity, many clients can comfortably wear higher ponytails depending on their chosen method and natural hairline.
During your consultation, your stylist will discuss how you like to wear your hair and recommend the most suitable placement and method to help achieve your desired result.
Absolutely. Hair extensions should fit your lifestyle not the other way around.
You can exercise, go to the gym, play sport and enjoy everyday activities with hair extensions. The key is following the correct maintenance and aftercare recommendations.
Swimming is also possible; however, we generally recommend avoiding prolonged exposure to chlorine and salt water where possible. Just as these elements can affect natural hair, they can also impact hair extensions. Salt water can cause tangling and matting due to friction, while chlorine can contribute to dryness and reduce longevity over time.
If you do swim, we recommend tying your hair up, avoiding submerging it where possible and following the appropriate aftercare afterwards.
Your stylist will provide personalised advice based on your lifestyle and chosen extension method.
Using the correct aftercare products plays a huge role in the longevity of your extensions and the health of your natural hair.
At Lady and the Hair, we recommend professional products specifically suited to both your extension method and your natural hair needs. While caring for your extensions is important, we never want to compromise the health of your natural hair in the process.
One of the most important things to know is that our hair extensions should not be treated with protein-based products unless specifically recommended by your stylist. Using the wrong products can affect the feel, performance and longevity of the hair.
Your stylist will recommend a personalised home care routine and suitable products to help keep both your extensions and natural hair looking and feeling their best between appointments.

Every extension booking is personally reviewed by our team. We’ll contact you to confirm your booking details, discuss your goals, ensure the correct service has been selected and allocate enough time for your appointment.
If we’re unable to determine exactly what you need from your booking notes, we’ll reach out before your appointment to ensure everything runs smoothly.
Hair extensions can be an amazing solution for adding length, fullness and confidence, but they aren’t the right fit for everyone.
The suitability of hair extensions depends on factors such as your hair density, hair strength, lifestyle, styling habits and willingness to commit to ongoing maintenance appointments.
In some cases, hair may be too fine to comfortably support extensions or may not provide enough coverage to achieve a natural-looking result. If we don’t believe extensions are the best option for your hair, we’ll be honest with you and discuss alternative solutions.
For clients experiencing significant thinning or hair loss, we also offer Skalp360 hair replacement systems, which can sometimes be a better solution than traditional hair extensions.
Our priority is always achieving the best outcome while protecting the health and integrity of your natural hair. During your consultation, we’ll assess your hair and provide honest recommendations based on your individual needs.
